Job Summary

Cox Media Group – Atlanta has a rare opening for a full-time Meteorologist for 95.5 WSB. As one of the only radio stations in the country with this role, this is a coveted position responsible for actively keeping our listeners informed about weather forecasts, weather stories, and during severe weather on radio, online, social media, and other emerging distribution platforms.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has strong meteorological credentials
  • Has a multi-media journalist background or mindset, capable of producing and distributing audio, video, and graphics across all platforms, including YouTube, Social Media, and other digital distribution platforms
  • Is able to tell the forecast and ‘weather story’ in a clear manner
  • Is able to work with a team that considers weather its top content priority
  • Is proficient on current technology
  • Makes and presents forecasts across all 95.5 WSB Radio platforms including on-air, social, web, and app platforms. Must be flexible and willing to work a variety of shifts, with forecast delivery as follows:
    • Live forecasts during Atlanta’s Morning News, weekday mornings, 4:30am – 9am
    • Delivers recorded forecasts multiple times during the day
    • Daily recorded forecasts for WSB-FM, WALR-FM, and WSRV-FM
  • Is able to be a leading part of 95.5 WSB StormCenter coverage, live, during severe weather situations
  • Prepares a regular weather blog, weather podcast, and/or other additional content for digital consumption
  • Is capable of ‘self producing’ content, including graphics, camera operation, audio and video editing
  • Uses equipment and stays up to date on technology to deliver the most accurate forecasts
  • A clear communicator to the listener and staff members on all shifts
  • Responsible for pitching weather-related stories for all platforms
  • Able to write and produce stories and present them live, if needed



What we look for

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Meteorology) or higher
  • AMS seal
  • Credentials to earn a CBM seal preferred
  • Minimum 3-years experience as a professional meteorologist for broadcast preferred
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with digital and social distribution of content on platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, blogs, websites, etc.
  • Highly adaptable and professional
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Able to multi-task in a high-speed environment
