Job Description

This position leads the desktop engineering and support team, supports the design, development, and implementation of Windows desktop technology to meet business demands.  Implements and maintains the comprehensive development and testing environment that will become the standard for evaluating desktop hardware, mobile devices, operating systems and software, including service packs and patches, security configurations and image & application deployment.  Schedules and reports on the execution of the testing and validation effort as part of a formal evaluation, recommendation and release management process. This role will gain organizational commitment for all high-level infrastructure plans, as well as initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans.

Responsibilities   

  • Provide expertise for IT projects by providing systems analysis and hardware requirements screening.
  • Serve as an escalation point for Client Support teams related to hardware/software problem resolution.
  • Conduct R&D of new technology, product testing, and performance measurements in a simulated development or test lab environment as a proof concept for possible implementation process.
  • Create and update documentation of all related processes and procedures and supported applications.
  • Implement and maintain a comprehensive testing environment that will become the standard for evaluating desktop hardware, mobile devices, operating systems and hosted applications, service packs and patches, security configurations and image deployment.
  • Schedule and report on the execution of the testing and validation effort as part of a formal evaluation, recommendation and release management process.
  • Create and update training and operational documentation of systems for transition to production.
  • Define and document image build processes including testing, quality assurance and implementation of MDT/OSD task sequences
  • Package, test and evaluate software and applications for distribution.
  • Collaborate with end users and senior management to define business requirements for complex systems development and gain buy-in for all infrastructure plans.
  • Provide architectural consulting expertise for the endpoint platforms.
  • Develop, document, make recommendations, and communicate plans for investing in IT infrastructure, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
  • Collaborate with field office IT administrators and engineers to deliver defined services
  • Lead the team of end user support analysts at company headquarters, directing work, managing escalations and providing coaching, guidance, training and oversight as required.

 

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • S. in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent training and experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Windows operating systems with in-depth knowledge of the configuration of Windows Desktop operating systems.  
  • 3+ years’ experience in an enterprise environment creating and distributing hardware independent images using Windows operating systems, supporting desktop hardware/software and connectivity issues.
  • 3+ years’ experience developing and supporting automated desktop software deployment solutions
  • 2+ years’ experience implementing and maintaining a comprehensive testing environment for evaluating desktop hardware, mobile devices, operating systems and hosted applications, service packs and patches, security configurations and image deployment.
  • 3+ year experience using Microsoft system/user management technologies (AD, GPOs, BigFix, etc).
  • 3+ years’ experience building MSI installations, Microsoft patches (.msp), Microsoft transforms (.mst), and script driven software installations.
  • Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) a plus.
