Job Summary


WPXI-TV, the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA, is looking for its next reporter to join a dynamic team that wants to win on every platform 24-hours/day. This reporter will have extensive experience in breaking news live shots, the ability to enterprise stories that turn the same day, and a resourcefulness to overcome obstacles on a daily basis. The News Team is looking for someone who has passion and excitement for local journalism, who understands the impact of stories to the communities they cover, and can break down complicated issues into reports that are clear and succinct.

  • Display urgency, tenacity and passion to get the best, most complete content quickly into the digital space and on tv by deadline.
  • Create breaking news content effectively and communicate to managers as soon as a story is confirmed
  • Use of enterprise skills to identify hard-news stories for delivery on television and the ability to consistently translate those news stories to social media.
    • Contribute ideas for enterprise stories and new angles on continuing stories.
  • Proven success in delivering breaking news stories to viewers and engaging audiences through the use of all facets of social media.
    • Adept at the use of social media to gather and break stories.
  • Generate clean, concise content that is balanced and unbiased, complete, in-depth and dependable, incorporating, where appropriate, a diverse range of sources. Content should not contain errors of fact or judgment.
  • Demonstrate social media savvy and use technology to file content remotely.
  • Be flexible in scheduling because of the changing needs of news events, including working overtime, and handle other assignments as needed.

Additional responsibilities and qualifications:

  • Report regularly on breaking and developing weather events and their aftermath.
  • Maintain speed, quality and clarity on air while describing breaking news.
  • Create multiple news stories per day.
  • File reports for radio and digital.
  • Pleasant-speaking voice with clear articulation.



What we look for

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communications preferred
  • 3 years of professional television reporting experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Requirements may change over time depending on technology and company priorities.
