Cox Media Group Jacksonville has an opening for an experienced Top 40 and Alternative radio programmer to become the new Director of Branding & Programming for WAPE and WXXJ.  The ideal candidate is well organized, self-motivated and an effective multi-tasker who has a high energy and passion for radio and digital media. They possess great instincts and understanding of what drives engaging content, and they possess a competitive attitude that drives them to win. The candidate should have knowledge of the Top 40 and Alternative music formats and lifestyles, must understand Nielsen Ratings, PPM and have a track record of ratings success. They must provide direction, organization, creativity, and strategy for the brand, including music, talent, imaging, promotions, web content/social media and production. All candidates must know how to image and manage the natural evolution of larger than life Top 40 and Alternative music brands. This candidate is immersed in pop culture.  They can easily connect with people on-air, in person and are proactive and innovative with social media and video content.     

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Director of Operations and the CMG Strategic Team to create and execute the strategic action plan for WAPE and WXXJ.
  • Oversees all aspects of content on WAPE and WXXJ
  • Analyses, executes and oversees the music research projects for WAPE and WXXJ.
  • Executes strategic and tactical marketing, promotions, events, sales and image campaigns.
  • Lead and manage the on-air teams and provide effective guidance. Supervising, managing and motivating team members on a daily basis.
  • Helps the Sales Department create exciting client based promotions.
  • Partner with the Digital Department to manage digital platforms and to achieve CMG’s corporate digital goals.
  • Organize and oversee the brands’ promotion and event calendars, strategizing ways to maximize pop culture related opportunities and community events, while also executing on deliverable promises made to station clients.
  • Is an ambassador for the radio stations when out in public; maintains a positive and approachable attitude when around listeners and clients.
  • Maintains a relationship with record label reps and schedules and attends music meetings.
  • Schedule music daily in Music Master and check social media to ensure it remains consistent with stations’ brands.
  • Writes copy for on-air promos and liners.
  • Assists in preparation and management of department’s budget by overseeing expenditures and maintaining invoice records and related documentation.
  • Air check meetings with WAPE and WXXJ on-air talent.
  • Manages the on-air schedule, organizing vacations and other time off with staff.
  • Monitors programming activities in conformance with FCC rules and regulations, COX Media Group policy and applicable federal, state and local laws.

 

 

 

 

 

 

What we look for

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years Program Director experience in a medium-large market.
  • A minimum of 5 years on-air experience in a medium-large market.
  • Understands and can analyze ratings under a PPM system.
  • The candidate should have knowledge of all applicable FCC rules and regulations, understanding of market/product research, computer literacy in automation system and other applicable programs, skill in operation of control board, remote broadcasting and other related production equipment.
  • Essential in problem-solving ability and in prioritizing and multitasking.
  • Ability to interact with management and staff in a respectful and professional manner at all levels in the cluster and the corporate level.
  • An understanding of program log editing, along with knowledge of Music Master, ProTools and VoxPro.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High degree of planning and organization skills; can multi task and meet specific deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible, creative, and innovative in using technology to deepen listener relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and weekends as well as be available for possible disasters, breaking news, or acts of nature.
