Job Summary

SUMMARY:  KIRO 7 is looking for an experienced broadcast Meteorologist to work part-time as fill in for our weather staff. We’re seeking a dynamic meteorologist to add to our tradition of excellence.

You need to do it all: television, online, social networking and community outreach.  We’ve got state-of-the-art weather systems and graphics. The person we’re looking for will work all shifts, including morning newscasts where a dynamic personality is an absolute must. You must be able to forecast and cover severe weather. We’re seeking a great storyteller who uses all the technology to create dynamic, compelling weather segments, on-air and online.

A Bachelor’s degree is preferred with at least 5 years’ experience in a television newsroom. An AMS or NWA sealed meteorologist is a plus. Strong live broadcast and live reporting skills are required. Strong web and digital skills are a must. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Newscast & Brand Management

  • Plans and executed weather forecast on all platforms
  • Deliver dynamic and engaging weather forecasts on air.
  • Deliver active live reports on air and on digital platforms
  • Write weather stories for digital platforms
  • Active on station social website and social media platforms.
  • Works closely with the Chief Meteorologist on executing weather brand strategy
  • Communicate weather information to news staff through internal communication systems

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • A. Degree in Meteorology, Journalism, Communications, or other field of study preferred
  • 5 or more years of newsroom experience preferred.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be well read on current affairs and have a wide-range working knowledge and understanding of general interest subjects.
  • Must be able to understand research and execute on the findings.
  • Ability to work well with others and deal with employee issues appropriately.
