Job Summary

Cox Media Group KIRO TV is looking for a Manager of Engineering! This position requires a strong leader with an ability to direct and motivate technical staff. The Manager of Engineering is responsible for management of all engineering functions including the professional development of the Engineering and IT teams. They will also assist the Director of Engineering (DOE) in developing strategic technical plans. This will include project management functions, including developing capital and operating budgets, technical drawing and integration/implementation. Functional areas of management include security, RF operations, broadcast equipment and digital distribution systems, building maintenance and tower operations. Unexpected calls for engineering emergencies may include overnights, weekends or holidays. Some travel may be required. 


  • Develop and implement current and long-range technical operation plans with an emphasis on emerging technology and competitive engineering standards and practices. 
  • Provide additional support and subject-matter expertise in the absence of the DOE to all staff (including leadership, news production personnel and the Engineering team) 
  • Assist DOE in the negotiation, tracking and organization of station-wide purchases. 
  • Implement & maintain engineering systems and provide end-user support across all departments. 
  • Support power and electrical systems (generators, UPS, etc.)  
  • Understand and manage the technical side of digital content delivery systems (streaming, datacasting.)  
  • Assist in facility and employee safety/security, including business continuity planning 
  • Provide knowledge and compliance of FCC rules, including the weekly log review process.  
  • Assist the IT department with networking, IT installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. 
  • Be responsible for station compliance with FCC, OSHA, and FAA regulations as well as all company policies and procedures. 
  • Establish procedures and standards for the operation and maintenance of equipment, including proper studio operations. 
  • Oversee the management and development of engineers and master control operators. 
  • Develop and implement systems for technical redundancy. 
  • Accept that the station’s obstacles and challenges are your challenges. 
  • Other duties as directed.  



What we look for


  • 5 years minimum work experience, education, and/or formal training/certification in one or more engineering-related fields (e.g., technology; information systems; computer science; electrical engineering and/or electronics). 
  • 2 years broadcast engineering management experience, preferred  
  • Extensive knowledge of broadcast systems, knowledge of government regulations and the industry standards required to ensure the station's technical compliance  
  • Significant technical expertise in the planning, implementation and maintenance of television station facilities, including RF facilities and IT infrastructure 
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail, accuracy, strong organizational skills and a customer-service approach  
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.  
  • RF experience  
  • Understanding of broadcast workflows  
  • Understanding of broadcast signal flow  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications  
  • Valid & unencumbered driver’s license
