On December 17th, 2019, CMG’s parent Cox Enterprises, Inc. announced it completed the sale of its portfolio of television and radio stations, and its CoxReps and Gamut national advertising businesses to a new media company that is majority owned by private equity funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management, Inc. (NYSE: APO). Cox Enterprises maintains a minority stake in the new company, which also includes Northwest Broadcasting and continues to operates under the name Cox Media Group, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.

Reporting to the CMG President & CEO, the Leader, Corporate Operations and Planning interfaces with all aspects of the business, as well as the executive leadership team of Cox Media Group, Inc. and the company’s private equity sponsor, Apollo Global Management, and the CMG Board of Directors.

The Leader, Corporate Operations and Planning is a highly visible role that acts as a force multiplier, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in developing and driving CMG’s strategic business priorities. As an equal and trusted member of the CEO’s direct report team, you will be the liaison, influencer, and aggregator that ensures that the executive leadership team operates as a high-performing team while ensuring that the company's highest priorities are successful.

The nature of the job varies based on then-current organization needs, but the primary functions include operational execution, planning, critical project management, performance tracking, leadership events, driving cross-functional collaboration, and working with the CEO on external and internal events, presentations, and similar initiatives. You will have visibility to a wide-range of media business activities and initiatives at a senior management level and must be able to navigate a rapidly evolving dynamic marketplace and organization to manage a broad range of activities and projects of varying degrees of complexity shifting from strategy to tactical execution, as needed.

This role is geared especially as an opportunity for those with skills in understanding the business aspects of a growing organization and someone who can provide perspective on strategy with a view to help the organization scale & succeed. Curiosity and ability to learn and engage with key executives at every level to ensure alignment is expected.

  • Partner with the leadership team to set strategy and goals for the organization, track progress, assess key performance indicators, and provide data-driven recommendations to leadership.
  • Partner with the CEO and executive leadership to manage the business planning process ensuring integration across the broader org. Work with counterparts to manage team participation for key business events, financial forecasts, quarterly business reviews, OKR reviews, and other strategic business planning activities.
  • Secure required resources, build consensus, and use formal processes and tools to manage important projects, budgets, risks and changes.
  • Act as a high-level manager for key strategic projects; track and manage follow up actions from board meetings, inquiries from investors and/or other requests from Apollo or the board of directors.
  • Manage the executive team operating rhythm, including setting up and facilitating key processes and/or meetings to get work done. Develop agendas and operating plans to ensure an effective cadence among the executive team.
  • Plan and execute senior leadership meetings, working with executives to identify the most important information to be shared to keep the group connected, engaged, and aligned on key organizational measures of success.
  • Provide insight and advice to leadership regarding operational excellence, resource, and fiscal planning, and participate in overall group strategy decisions.
  • Develop board and other executive presentations and materials that are visually compelling, data-driven and reflect the strategic imperatives of the organization.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality with matters of strategic importance to Cox Media Group.

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS in Business Administration, Finance, Media/Broadcasting or related field of study required. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years working in a consulting capacity preferred.
  • 3+ years media or other related experience preferred.
