Job Summary

The Head of Product - Cox Media Group, will serve as a senior executive responsible for Cox Media Group Product and will develop, lead, implement, execute and adjust an integrated enterprise Product strategy and approach.  This role will have a high level of visibility across the organization and with the Cox Media Group SLT and ELT teams. S/He will be responsible for leading and managing a product team with direct responsibility for people, activities, and initiatives across the enterprise. 

This role requires deep domain expertise and industry knowledge, proven cross-functional and cross-organizational leadership and ability to translate vision and strategy into rapid execution working with sales, content and technology teams.

The Head of Product must be a mature self-starter with the confidence and the experience to guide and shape an enterprise product agenda that has executive endorsement and marketplace success.  Through proactive stakeholder management, s/he will serve as a true business partner to senior leadership; will understand the business and can give/provide counsel at the same time drive results.  Ideally, the candidate will have a track record of success managing portfolio product programs in a matrixed, distributed organization amidst a complex change management environment.    

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In partnership with customers, senior management, and product teams, lead and develop product strategy for CMG’s full product suite
  • Participate in identification and elaboration of market opportunities, and merge into product strategy that optimizes market breadth and value proposition
  • Define and measure individual and product portfolio ROI; discern where to invest and what to groom or sunset, based on meaningful measurement
  • Ensure business alignment across the various CMG functional areas (sales, content, marketing, digital operations, product, etc.)
  • Evolve product strategy into innovative, buildable software products and platforms
  • Identify primary business users, and elaborate value propositions, use cases and stories
  • Develop product layout, user experience, value and information flows
  • Actively build and lead team of managers and product experts to get the details right, while not losing sight of the big picture
  • Work closely with the CIO to actively manage product development and phased release plans
  • Build, maintain and leverage working relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Effectively manage resources and budgets across organization to maximize performance and efficiency
  • Define Service Level Agreements, systematically review and recommend initiatives to improve SLAs; remove obstacles that limit our delivery and ability to exceed customer expectations
  • Drive a high level of employee engagement by effectively communicating company strategy, product vision and organizational scorecards
  • Create and nourish an environment that drives continuous improvement and optimizes best practices

What we look for

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • 12+ years in software or high tech product management; experience in the media industry a plus
  • Currently in a leadership role, managing a team of product managers
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent; MBA preferred
  • Passion for great products, and a desire to delight customers
  • Ability to sift through details quickly, determine what’s important and author clear requirements and product plans
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced exciting environment
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to adeptly demonstrate products
