Job Description

The Digital Content Editor works with a team of digital content editors to surface, write and respond to the most compelling, fast-paced news on the web.

The National Content and Distribution Center at Cox Media Group is looking for a digital journalist who can beat all competitors with the most reliable breaking news coverage, but who can also pivot to writing compelling social media content.

This person must be a “best-in-class” writer of digital content with a knack for picking the right story at the right time.

On this team, you will have the latest digital newsgathering tools at your fingertips and your coverage will drive millions of page views for local news websites across Cox Media Group.

This position must be available for nighttime and weekend work as this is a 24-7 news team. The CMG National Content and Distribution Center team is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Primary responsibilities of this position:

  • Performs journalism that is fast and accurate.
  • Reliably covers breaking news, beating all competitors.
  • Understands and applies digital best practices, including search and social optimization.
  • Understands and applies aggregation best practices.
  • Understands the role of data in surfacing high-value stories.
  • Is a “best-in-class” headline writer.
  • It is a team player, and remains responsive to the demands of the news cycle.

 

 

What we look for

  • Minimum of three years of recent experience as a digital news writer and producer.
  • Experience as a local newspaper or digital-first news reporter is required. Must have links or clips.
  • Experience with at least one CMS in a professional newsroom is required.
  • Experience on a digital audience team is a plus.
  • Experience as a social media optimizer or producer is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or related field.
