Job Summary
WPXI-TV Channel 11 News is in search of a content creator to help engage and grow our audience on multiple platforms. This position will be on the front lines during breaking news and severe weather and must be willing to work in a very fast paced, demanding news environment. The applicant needs to have good communication skills, work well with newsroom staff and have technical knowledge of news gathering. Candidates should be open to feedback and have a desire to grow in their role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate and collaborate with newsroom staff both in the station and in the field.
- Monitor content resources like station email, phones, scanners, social media and handle logistics for field crews.
- Coordinate coverage during daily news, breaking news and severe weather for all platforms.
- Create new content, and post to digital, streaming, and social platforms.
- Ability to write for digital and social platforms is a must.
- Coordinate streaming coverage of live news events, breaking news and severe weather.
- Work with other members of our Content Center team to confirm tips and information from public officials in a clear and professional manner.
- Answer incoming phone calls, and ability to communicate with the public
- Other duties may be assigned and must be able follow all company and station editorial policies and protocols.
- Schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays and overnights.
What we look for
wHAT WE LOOK FOR
- A minimum of 2 years professional experience in local TV news is preferred
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university
- Knowledge of content management systems (CMS) as well as social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
- Basic knowledge of HTML code, Adobe Photoshop, nonlinear editing
- Strong understanding of AP-style writing
- Ability to multi-task, strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Possess the ability to work under pressure
- Strong knowledge of the Pittsburgh area is a plus
- Must be thoroughly professional in all aspects of journalism
- Must be well read on current affairs and have a wide range working knowledge and understanding of general interest subjects
- Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills, with strong motivation and work ethic.
- Interact promptly, productively and positively with viewers, fellow employees and all levels of management.
- Flexibility in working hours (Must be willing to work evenings/weekends/overnights)
