Job Description
The Cox Media Group Assistant General Counsel, Commercial will serve as a critical partner to the General Counsel and the CMG leadership team. This role is responsible for all aspects of legal support for CMG broadcast and digital operations and products, advertising and privacy, and also supports the Company’s M&A and corporate activities.
We are looking for a flexible team player with a strong customer service ethic and a commitment to providing best in class legal services. Must be capable of handling a substantial amount of work in a large, fast-paced, dynamic and diverse corporate environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as strategic partner to business clients and provide creative solutions for mitigating risk
- Establish best practices and actively identify and address risk related to the company’s commercial practices
- Lead the legal support of all commercial agreements, including sales and operations, software and technology, complex licensing, professional services, and partner agreements
- Oversee legal support for CMG advertising strategy and products, including core and digital advertising, sponsorships and endorsements, and contests
- Support trademark, domain and copyright matters
- Partner with the General Counsel on M&A transactions and other corporate matters
- Advise on privacy matters and oversee Company privacy practices
- Provide legal support for leases and other real estate matters
- Lead a team of in-house and outside legal resources
- Employ strong leadership skills to build consensus and influence business decisions made by senior leaders and stakeholders
What we look for
Minimum Qualifications
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school
- Minimum 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years in-house drafting and negotiating agreements and supporting commercial practices
- Experience advising on media and content, advertising and privacy
- Comfortable using and learning established as well as evolving media technologies
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
- Proven ability to operate with a high degree of accuracy and exhibit excellent organizational skills.
- Experience with handling and appropriately prioritizing a high volume of diverse legal requests for advice, research and review, and able to be nimble and flexible in meeting competing client needs
- Past experience of significant responsibility with M&A transactions
- Experience managing a team
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and a positive attitude
- Proven ability to work well with others and to creatively solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to produce significant output with minimal wasted effort
- Maintains stable performance when under heavy pressure or stress; remains composed and productive under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Highly skilled in MS Office, Simple Legal, Onit, and other legal reporting tools
- Copyright, Trademark, FCC, FTC, TCPA, and HIPAA experience a plus
- Experience working with advertising agencies a plus
